Continuity and Revision

A living tradition: what can change, and how.

Vastianism is designed as a living tradition. Teachings may evolve as understanding improves. Growth is not permission for drift. Revisions must increase honesty, dignity, or discipline. Any change that concentrates power, reduces accountability, or lets money buy influence over safety is invalid by definition.

8.1 What Cannot Change - The Spine

Some elements are the Spine of the tradition, and the Spine does not move. The Three Oaths are the Spine. Stewardship in place of spiritual authority is the Spine. These exist to prevent the movement from becoming what it was designed to resist: a structure that hides harm, protects ego, and demands obedience.

8.2 The Amendment Cycle

Amendments may be proposed by a steward or by formal petition from the membership. The process begins with a review phase, in which the Council of Stewards examines the proposal for alignment with the Three Oaths. If the proposal is consistent with the Spine, it moves to member input. During this period, the proposed change is published openly, and the community is invited to discuss it through circles and digital forums. No significant change occurs in secret.

8.3 Adoption, Versioning, and Archive

After the feedback period, the Council of Stewards may adopt an amendment through a consensus process appropriate to the scale of the change. The charter is then updated with a new version number and a clear change log explaining what was altered and why. Previous versions remain archived and accessible. This is not bureaucratic clutter. It is an ethical trail that makes corruption harder to hide.

Revision is a discipline. The aim is to stay responsive to the world without surrendering integrity to novelty or pressure. The charter must be capable of learning, and the movement must be capable of saying, plainly, "we were wrong" and "we will do better," when evidence and conscience demand it.
